Weldin was built in 1963, with renovations in 2001 and more substantially in summer 2016, so the interior finishes are newer than the construction date suggests. Its official page lists "A/C in Rooms: Yes" — one of the few first-year halls at URI where that's true. As in Barlow, bed risers are banned, and none are needed: URI sets the frames to leave 30 inches of clearance for storage bins. A real loft has to be requested on the furniture form in URI My Housing after move-in and installed by URI staff. Buy Twin XL (36" x 81") sheets.

Day to day

Weldin runs corridor-style, with shared community bathrooms cleaned by custodial staff and roughly 330 first-year residents — one of the larger first-year halls at URI. The building has elevator access, is wheelchair accessible, and has laundry on each floor. URI describes Weldin's floor plan as designed to encourage social interaction, the same design intent as Barlow's, and the grassy knoll between the two buildings is where residents study outdoors on nice days. A meal plan is required, with standard residents on the Unlimited plan, since Weldin has no in-hall dining or kitchen.

Move-in day

Weldin's Fall 2026 move-in falls inside URI's major move-in days of September 4-7, 2026, with a scheduled 20-minute unloading appointment; unloading close to the halls is only available during that window. Because Weldin and Barlow sit next to each other, confirm your specific building's entrance the day of — URI notes that move-in communications tell you which entrance to use, and curbside space is tight during the published peak traffic times around 8 a.m. and just after noon. Label all belongings with name and room assignment beforehand. Early move-in (August 31-September 3, 2026) runs $75 per day — $300 for August 31, $225 for September 1, $150 for September 2, and $75 for September 3.
