Living in Sewall Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Sewall's rooms range from singles and doubles up to quads, all sharing community bathrooms, with triples the only configuration that gets a private bath. Every resident gets the standard extra-long twin bed (80 x 36 x 7 in.), desk and chair, dresser, wardrobe, and a lockable desk drawer, plus a free Microfridge and separate microwave per room. Like the rest of CU Boulder's halls, there are no lofted beds on offer: Facilities can lower a bed two levels on a work order, but nobody raises or lofts one, and students can't adjust it themselves. That leaves roughly 35 inches of clearance underneath. Rooms run about 60-100 square feet per person. With no air conditioning and no elevator, packing light and bringing a fan matters more here than in some of CU's renovated buildings.
Day to day
Sewall centers on the Stories and Societies Residential Academic Program, which pairs most first-year residents with a shared humanities-and-culture curriculum alongside their housing assignment — eligibility runs through Arts and Sciences, Education, and Exploratory Studies. The hall sits near green space and CU's running and bike trails, with a staffed front desk, an in-hall dining facility, lounge and study space, and free laundry covering daily needs. Because there's no elevator, upper-floor assignments mean real stairs for laundry, dining, and move-in day alike, which is worth factoring into any accessibility conversation with Housing before assignments lock in.
Move-in day
Sewall follows the same Fall 2026 window as the rest of campus: Sunday, August 16 through Tuesday, August 18, with a required move-in appointment self-selected via MyCULiving between June 9 and July 14, 2026, plus a change window July 22-26. Because Sewall has no elevator, families should budget extra time and bring a hand truck or dolly — every box for an upper floor goes up by stairs. The lack of air conditioning also means the actual carrying stretch is more comfortable done in the cooler morning appointment slots if one is available during self-selection. Central-campus parking near Sewall fills quickly on move-in weekend.
