Living in Old Digman: what to know before you pack
The room
Old Digman is one of Dickinson's two corridor-style buildings, alongside Old Rafuse: each room houses two students, and each set of three rooms shares a bathroom — a layout Residential Life scopes specifically to Old Digman. That's the most traditional dorm-hallway arrangement in the community, versus the four- and five-person flats in Dickinson's other four buildings, where each flat shares two bathrooms and an entry vestibule. Binghamton's Dickinson page doesn't publish room square footage the way the CIW, Hinman and Mountainview pages do, so measure before you buy furniture or a rug. Standard-issue furniture applies: bed and mattress, desk and chair, dresser and wardrobe in every room. Old Digman doubles are also priced below the rest of Dickinson — $5,901 per semester for 2026-27 versus $6,623 for a standard Dickinson double.
Day to day
Old Digman sits within Dickinson Community, Binghamton's first campus community, home to the HaWC — Health and Wellness Community — living-learning option for first-year residents, and known for the Dickinson Town Council's Mutant Mania each spring. Along with Old Rafuse, it's one of only two Dickinson buildings without air conditioning; the community's other four buildings, with their newer four- and five-person flats, do have it. Every building in Dickinson has its own multi-purpose room, a laundry room with an adjoining laundry lounge, and a recreational game room, and residents share the Turf Field, the C4 Dining Hall (the Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center, shared with Newing), and basketball and volleyball courts. Expect a more hallway-centric social scene here than in Dickinson's flat-style buildings.
Move-in day
Fall 2026 move-in for new first-year and transfer students ran Friday, Aug. 14 through Saturday, Aug. 15, at an appointment scheduled through the housing portal between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dickinson traffic enters through the main lower-campus entrance at Glenn G. Bartle Drive off Vestal Parkway East (Route 434). Watch the signage carefully: Old Digman and Old Rafuse are marked in green, while Dickinson's other four buildings — Digman, Johnson, Rafuse and O'Connor — are marked in blue, and the near-identical names make this an easy one to get wrong. The full process generally takes one to two hours, with green laundry carts and B-Welcome Crew volunteers in bright green T-shirts on hand. Stop using GPS once on campus and use Residential Life's mobile-friendly wayfinding application instead.
