Rooms open onto centrally located, single-occupant bathrooms assigned to 3-6 residents rather than a full en-suite, so pack a shower caddy for the short walk down the hall.

Day to day

Valley Oaks is built around Goldsworth Valley with mass-timber construction, biophilic design, and two outdoor courtyards. Every floor has a kitchenette, a laundry area, and central lounges, plus hybrid-learning booths and a health and well-being studio -- a step up in amenities from WMU's older halls. It's steps from the Valley Dining Center (WMU lists the walk at about 30 seconds), and rooms run on in-room PTAC units for heating and air conditioning. Card access controls interior and exterior doors. There are no in-room Ethernet ports, so plan on WiFi. As a brand-new building exclusively for first-year students, it doesn't yet host any of WMU's established Living Learning Communities.

Move-in day

Valley Oaks follows WMU's general Fall 2026 first-year move-in window of August 27-29, with students booking a 60-minute arrival slot through the housing portal (sign-up opens August 3 at 10 a.m.). Because the building is brand new for Fall 2026, WMU has not yet published hall-specific move-in logistics such as loading zones, cart availability, or elevator access -- confirm those with Housing and Residence Life closer to the date.
