Carrollton, GA · First-year Wolves, Carrollton
University of West Georgia Freshman Dorms 2026
UWG requires all new, first-time-in-college students to live on campus (with a meal plan) through two completed semesters -- student-athletes owe four. Real exemptions exist: 21+, married, legal parent/guardian of a minor, enrolled in a fully-online program, living with a parent/guardian in an approved exempted zip code, 30+ accepted credit hours, active-duty military, or two prior semesters of on-campus residency elsewhere. Four halls house new students: Center Pointe Suites (the primary first-year destination), The Oaks (2013, Honors LLC), Bowdon Hall (UWG's oldest hall, built 1971), and University Suites (a genuinely mixed hall shared with upperclassmen). Fall 2026 move-in runs August 7-8.

What to bring to University of West Georgiadorms — and what’s already there
Every UWGfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.
⚠ Personal microwaves and refrigerators are banned campus-wide -- one of each is already built into every room.
⚠ Students cannot loft, bunk, or otherwise modify bed height themselves in any hall -- University Suites' frame adjusts by design (5-34.5in), the other three are fixed.
⚠ No UWG housing page states air conditioning explicitly -- only thermostat language is confirmed. Confirm directly with Housing if AC matters for your planning.
⚠ University Suites houses both new and returning students; its pet-friendly wing (University Suites 1) is open to all upperclassmen.

Mattress topperDorm mattresses are thin and firm — a topper is the biggest comfort upgrade.
Surge protectorRequired at most schools — plain extension cords are banned.
Shower caddyCommunal bathrooms — you carry everything to and from the shower.
Under-bed storage binsThe space under the bed is the only real storage a dorm gives you.
LED desk lampNot provided in most halls — you'll want your own light for late study nights.
Common questions about University of West Georgia dorms
- Is on-campus housing required for freshmen at UWG?
- Yes -- all new, first-time-in-college students must live on campus with a meal plan through two completed semesters (four for student-athletes), unless they qualify for one of eight documented exemptions.
- Are UWG residence halls air conditioned?
- UWG's own housing pages don't say so explicitly -- only 'digital thermostat' language appears. Given Georgia's climate, AC is very likely present, but this is not directly confirmed by the university.
- Is University Suites a freshman hall?
- It's listed as a new-student hall, but it's also listed as a returning-student hall, and its own hall page frames itself as central campus housing for upperclassmen.
