University of Maine Freshman Dorms 2026

UMaine requires all first-year students to live on campus, exempt only if 21 or older, within 35 commuting miles, or granted an exceptional-circumstances exemption. Move-in ('Black Bear Bridge Week') runs Monday Aug 24 through Aug 28, 2026; classes start Aug 31. Personal air conditioners are explicitly banned campus-wide (confirmed in the official Guide to Campus Living); building-level AC is not documented anywhere for any hall. Beds arrive at a default 'mid-loft' height (~27-30" clearance) and can be lowered by request submitted before arrival.

What to bring to University of Mainedorms — and what’s already there

Every UMainefreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

Freshman live-on-campus mandate is real and active: required unless 21 or older, within 35 commuting miles, or granted an exceptional-circumstances exemption.

The official move-in/closing page still lists 'Coburn' and 'Polaris' as halls open over break — both are stale references; those buildings became the independent Hotel Ursa in March 2024 and are no longer student housing.

Personal air conditioners are explicitly banned; bring a UL-certified fan instead.

Beds arrive at mid-loft height by default; students needing it lowered must email Housing before arrival — day-of requests are not guaranteed.
