The room

Every resident gets a Twin XL bed measuring 36" x 80", plus a desk, chair, dresser, bookshelf, and closet or wardrobe space, all modular and rearrangeable within the room. Marquette says lofting and ladders are available in all rooms but does not publish an under-bed clearance height. There is no air conditioning, which matters more in the doubles and triples that pack more bodies into a room.

Day to day

Originally built in 1928 as the LaSalle Hotel, Cobeen was purchased by Marquette in 1964, remodeled in 1965, and dedicated as a residence hall in 1966 -- giving it an older, more distinctive layout than Marquette's purpose-built halls. It is named for Charles Cobeen, a 1920 Marquette alumnus and longtime student union and university business manager. It is co-ed by floor and houses both first- and second-year students, so incoming freshmen share the building with returning sophomores rather than an all-first-year cohort. Cobeen Dining is in the building itself, with Commons Dining about 10 minutes to the west. Amenities include a computer lab with PrintWise, game room, piano room, lounges, study spaces, a chapel, a kitchenette, laundry, vending, Wi-Fi, cable, and 24/7 security, and the staff includes a Jesuit in Residence.

Move-in day

Cobeen residents move in on Marquette's shared first-year move-in day, Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- there is no hall-specific date. Each student reserves a 90-minute timeslot for that day. Families can also use the optional early drop-off window, August 23-25, reserving a 60-minute slot through the Campus Living Portal to bring items in ahead of the main day, then a second 60-minute slot on August 26 for the room key and remaining items. Signups for both open Friday, June 12. Given Cobeen's mix of room types, triple and quad residents in particular should plan for tighter parking and elevator/stairwell traffic on move-in day.
