Marquette University Freshman Dorms 2026
Marquette requires all single first- and second-year students to live in campus residence halls, so nearly every incoming freshman is assigned a Twin XL bed (36" x 80", lofting and ladders available) in one of 10 residence halls near downtown Milwaukee. Air conditioning is not universal -- Mashuda, Humphrey, Straz Tower, and both Commons buildings have it, while Abbottsford, Cobeen, O'Donnell, Schroeder, and Carpenter Tower do not, and personal air conditioners are prohibited. Fall 2026 first-year move-in is Wednesday, August 26, with an optional early drop-off window August 23-25.

What to bring to Marquette Universitydorms — and what’s already there
Every Marquettefreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.
⚠ First- and second-year students are both required to live on campus at Marquette (not just freshmen), with narrow exceptions for living with a parent or guardian near campus, being 21+, or being two years removed from high school. Note that Marquette's own policies page states the distance both as a 35-mile radius (Residency Requirement section) and a 30-mile radius (Terms and Conditions section) -- confirm with Residence Life if you are near the line.
⚠ Personal air conditioners are prohibited in all residence halls, and five of the ten halls have no AC -- a fan is the only option in those buildings.
⚠ Refrigerators are capped at 4.8 cubic feet and microwaves at 800 watts per occupant; only coffee makers with an automatic shutoff are allowed.
⚠ Alcohol policy violations carry escalating fines from $50 up to $750, plus possible probation, suspension, or expulsion.
⚠ Students in rooms with private bathrooms must supply their own shower curtain (liners are provided) and clean the bathroom themselves; custodial staff clean only the common bathrooms.
