Living in Azalea Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Azalea rooms are built for two, with each half getting its own bed frame, desk, side cabinet, chair, chest of drawers, and closet, plus a sink and ceiling fan in the room. LSU lists the bed as "Twin XL, Loftable," so most residents raise theirs to tuck a mini-fridge, storage bins, or a small desk setup underneath — LSU does not publish a maximum raised height or under-bed clearance figure, and bed risers are prohibited, so the loft setting is the only way to gain height. Central A/C with individual room controls means you're not sharing a thermostat with the whole floor — a spec LSU itemizes for Azalea and Cedar but not for its older halls. Blinds and energy-efficient windows come installed, so most students only need to add bedding, a rug, and personal decor.

Day to day

Azalea runs on a foyer-style suite bathroom model — each two-person room shares its bathroom with the room next door rather than a whole hallway, which cuts down on the traffic of a big communal bathroom. The building has a community kitchen, a computer lab with free ink for printing, study rooms on every floor, individual study nooks, on-site classrooms, and large outdoor courtyards and patios. LSU places it on the east side of campus near the Student Recreation Center and Campus Lake, putting residents close to workout facilities and the walking loop. Pay-per-cycle laundry is on site, and the hall has live-in and on-call staff. At 5 floors and a 400-bed capacity, it is one of LSU's larger traditional halls, co-ed by suite.

Move-in day

First-year move-in at Azalea follows LSU's general Fall 2026 schedule: Friday, August 14 is early arrival, which adds a $200 charge to the fee bill, with slots at 2, 3:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m. Standard move-in is Saturday, August 15 (slots from 8 a.m. through 6:30 p.m.) and Sunday, August 16 (slots from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m.). Students choose and adjust their appointment in the housing portal July 1-24, 2026 — each hall opens for selection at a different time on July 1-2 — and roommates or suitemates who want to arrive together must all select the same time. Print one hang tag per car (maximum two cars per student; sharing or photocopying tags is not permitted), then arrive at the move-in staging area via Gourrier Avenue no more than five minutes before your slot, since early arrivals get redirected to the exit lane to wait. At the welcome tents you exchange the arrival hang tag for a building-specific one, follow the signage into Azalea's unloading zone, and move the car to a non-route parking area once it's empty.
