Living in Acadian Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Acadian's two-student rooms use a standard Twin bed — LSU lists it as "Twin, Bunkable," not Twin XL — along with a built-in desk, chair, built-in closets and shelves, and blinds for each resident, plus an in-room sink, which not every LSU hall has. Most rooms include large walk-in closets, though the older "Old Acadian" section (rooms 200-218, located above the courtyard) has smaller built-in storage instead. The bed size is the thing to get right: buy standard Twin sheets here, not the Twin XL sets LSU's packing list says most halls need, and skip bed risers, which LSU prohibits campus-wide. The beds bunk rather than loft, and LSU publishes no clearance figure. LSU does not itemize an A/C spec for Acadian the way it does for the newest halls — cooling is provided, but confirm the specific system with Residential Life.
Day to day
Acadian sits on the east side of campus near Campus Lake, next to the 459 Commons Dining Hall — about as close to dining as first-year housing gets — and within a short walk of academic buildings and the Student Union. Bathrooms are shared hall-style facilities. The building has a community kitchen, a computer lab with free ink for printing, campus lake access for a walk between classes, and live-in and on-call staff; the service desk is located in Blake Hall rather than in Acadian itself. At 5 floors and a capacity of 200, co-ed by floor, it's mid-sized as LSU halls go. It's one of the more traditional, no-frills options on campus, and at $4,665 per semester for 2026-27 it prices below the $5,595 suite-style halls like Azalea and Cedar — though Herget and McVoy, at $4,025, are LSU's least expensive.
Move-in day
Acadian first-years move in on LSU's standard Fall 2026 schedule — early arrival Friday, August 14 for a $200 charge on the fee bill (slots at 2, 3:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m.), then general move-in Saturday, August 15 with slots from 8 a.m. through 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 16 with slots from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Arrival times are self-selected in the housing portal July 1-24, 2026, with halls opening for selection at staggered times on July 1-2; roommates who want to arrive together must choose the same slot. Print one hang tag per car (two cars maximum per student — sharing or photocopying tags isn't permitted), then arrive at the move-in staging area via Gourrier Avenue no more than five minutes before your time, since early birds get redirected to the exit lane. At the welcome tents you swap the arrival tag for a building-specific hang tag, follow the signage to Acadian's unloading zone, and move the car clear of the move-in routes once unloaded.
