The room

McNutt rooms are offered as singles or doubles, each with a closet or wardrobe, a desk, a chair, and a single bed with an extra-long twin mattress that sits 20 inches from the floor, plus a wastebasket, window coverings, and Wi-Fi. The building's renovation was completed in 2020, so finishes are newer than in several of IU's other quad-style halls. Whether a McNutt bed can be lofted is not something IU publishes: the university says only that loftability depends on the residence hall and room type, and that requests are placed through Bedloft, its third-party vendor. Residents may not reconfigure or disassemble beds themselves, and bed risers of any kind are prohibited. Virtual tours for both room types are on McNutt's official page, with floor plans and a virtual measuring tool — worth using before buying a rug or storage bins, since IU does not publish room dimensions.

Move-in day

First-year McNutt residents move in during Grand Move-In, Aug. 18-19 for fall 2026, and the first stop is not the building. Every student checks in at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, 1001 E. 17th St. — enter from the Indiana 45/46 Bypass at Gate 11, Purple Lot, and park Green or Orange. Only the student may check in, they need a CrimsonCard on their phone, and they collect the unload-and-go dashboard pass there. Then drive to McNutt, where the circle drive is closed for those two days: park on Fee Lane or in the 13th Street parking lot, with additional unloading space in the tailgate lot grass area. Staff with golf carts are on hand to help move belongings to the building. Unload in 15-20 minutes and keep someone with the car so a driver can move it. Confirm your date and time window in the Housing Portal, and be moved in by the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 19 for the first floor meeting.
