Francis Marion University Freshman Dorms 2026
FMU does not require first-year students to live on campus — its housing page says freshmen 'may choose to live' in the residence halls, and no live-on mandate is published anywhere in the 2026-2027 Student Handbook. Students entering with fewer than 24 earned credit hours do receive automatic placement in the six residence halls (Palmetto, Swamp Fox, Marion State, Belle Isle, Snow Island, and Ellen C. Watson) rather than the upperclass Village Apartments or Forest Villas, which require 24+ credits to apply — that is an eligibility rule, not a residency requirement. All rooms are furnished with a fixed-height, floor-level single XL bed (a Fire Marshal order bars raising beds off the floor at all), and all facilities are air-conditioned.

What to bring to Francis Marion Universitydorms — and what’s already there
Every FMUfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.
⚠ FMU publishes no explicit freshman live-on requirement — housing pages use 'may choose to live' language; treat 'Not Required' as best-available reading, and confirm directly with Housing (843-661-1330 / housing@fmarion.edu) if this matters for your plans.
⚠ A Fire Marshal order prohibits raising any residence-hall bed above floor height in all six halls — loft kits and bed risers will not work here.
⚠ Fall 2026 residence-hall move-in date is not published as of verification; the last confirmed hard date is Open Registration on Monday, August 24, 2026.
