Living in Kahlert Village: what to know before you pack
The room
Kahlert Village rooms come in six configurations: Single Suite, Double Suite, Cluster Single, Cluster Double, Triple Suite, and Single Private Bathroom, priced from $8,640 to $12,777 for the 2026-2027 academic year. Every room ships with a Twin XL bed, desk, chair, three-drawer dresser, and a wardrobe (Kahlert is the hall that gives one wardrobe per bed). The U says most beds on campus can be lofted; if yours isn't self-loftable you submit a maintenance request or ask the front desk for a lofting kit, handed out first-come, first-served. Triple rooms arrive already lofted at no charge. Suite rooms pair two bedrooms around a shared bath; cluster rooms group students around 8-10 individual bathrooms plus a community kitchen. Exact ceiling clearance for a lofted bed isn't published, so check your room's floor plan PDF on the housing site before you plan a loft-plus-desk setup.
Day to day
Kahlert Village is the U's largest first-year community, built around Living Learning Communities — academic-interest groups that live on the same floor, including the Price College of Engineering First Year Floor and the College of Science First Year Community in the STEM tower. Each floor has a kitchenette, a centralized laundry room, study space, and a lounge, and the building adds the Urban Bytes dining room, a meditation space/ablution room, multiple music rooms, a counseling office, an advising office, and Creative Commons by Adobe. It's centrally located mid-campus rather than in the Heritage Commons cluster where Chapel Glen and Sage Point sit. A dining plan is required here.
Move-in day
Kahlert Village follows the university's general fall move-in window, August 18-21, 2026, with times assigned by residence hall and floor; a pre-approved paid early-arrival window runs August 14-17 ($250, or $150 for sorority recruitment). Housing-area parking lots close August 18-21 for move-in — if you already have a car on campus you'll need to move it to the Rice-Eccles Stadium lot or the 305 Chipeta Way garage starting the evening of Monday, August 17. Because most beds are lofted on request rather than pre-lofted, decide with your roommate ahead of time whether you want the bed raised, and plan on a maintenance request or a front-desk lofting kit if yours isn't self-loftable.
