  • Canyon Crest Suites requires a meal plan on every room type — factor that into cost comparisons against Merrill, where a meal plan is optional.
  • USU has posted a construction notice for ongoing work near Canyon Crest Suites, with increased activity and limited sidewalk access around Central Campus; check current conditions ahead of move-in day.
  • The 30-inch-high bed frame is fixed — no stacking, and loft kits/lofting are not permitted.

Living in Canyon Crest Suites: what to know before you pack

The room

Canyon Crest is USU's largest suite-style option, mixing 4-bed, 5-bed, and 6-bed suites with a blend of Shared, Semi-Private, and Private bedrooms (Shared 13' x 10', Semi-Private 11' x 8', Private 9' x 8'). Every bed is a Twin XL (36" x 80" mattress) on a raised bedframe with 30 inches of clearance between the frame and the floor for under-bed storage — fixed in place, not a loft, and not adjustable. Bedrooms include a 34" wide x 24" deep desk, chairs, a 36" wide x 24" deep closet, and both a large dresser (26" x 19", three drawers) and a small dresser (13" x 13", three drawers). Suites include a kitchenette (about 9' x 7') and share 1-2 bathrooms depending on floor plan, and full kitchens with TV lounges are available on floors 2 through 6.

Day to day

USU pitches Canyon Crest as "great for first-year students and upperclassmen alike," so it's a mixed-year building rather than an exclusively freshman hall — expect suitemates who aren't all new to campus. It opened in fall 2022 as USU Housing's newest building, six floors located just east of Central Suites, and it's home to the Aggies Elevated program, USU's inclusive postsecondary education community. Building amenities lean social and active: a theater room, fitness room, music practice rooms with pianos, gas grills and a half-size outdoor basketball court in the courtyard, plus access to outdoor volleyball and tennis courts. A meal plan is required with every room type.

Move-in day

Fall 2026 move-in runs August 22-30, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with all residents checked in before classes begin August 31. Central air conditioning takes the edge off a hot move-in day, and the raised bed frame's 30 inches of under-bed clearance means storage bins can go straight underneath rather than needing separate closet space. USU has flagged ongoing construction near the building with limited sidewalk access, so allow extra time for moving carts and vehicles on move-in day.
