The room

Room types span the widest range of any UO hall: single and double rooms with either a private bath or just a sink, a triple with sink, and 2-, 4- and 6-person suites with a shared bath. Every room gets the standard bed, wardrobe or closet, dresser, desk and chair, with a Twin XL (36 x 80 in) mattress. UO states all beds in Global Scholars Hall are loftable but that loft kits are limited, so don't count on one being available. Room sizes run 131 to 319 square feet depending on configuration, so a triple and a single suite feel like very different living situations under the same roof. Check your specific room type in the My Housing portal rather than assuming what a neighbor down the hall has.

Day to day

Global Scholars Hall's ground floor holds the Fresh Marketcafé, described by UO as a go-to for just about any type of cuisine, with rice bowls, pasta, espresso and a deli counter, so residents can eat without leaving the building. The commons area houses the CURE (Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement) advising office, with drop-in advising on undergraduate research opportunities and distinguished scholarships Monday-Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Other amenities include a learning commons, classroom spaces, music practice rooms, a community kitchen with a test kitchen used by the Global Engagement ARC to showcase foods from different cultures, moveable furniture in rooms, secured bike cages and in-building laundry. The live-in faculty member and the Global Engagement Academic Residential Community give the building a noticeably academic, international-facing culture.

Move-in day

Like every UO hall, move-in requires a printed Unpack the Quack unloading permit -- UO states campus roads are closed to everyone without one. Each residence hall has its own unloading zone, and UO releases the move-in map through the My Housing portal in September, so follow that rather than guessing a street. The driver must stay with the vehicle while Unpack the Quack volunteers help unload; afterward the driver is directed to park at Autzen Stadium, with shuttles running back to campus until 5:30 p.m. The hall has an elevator, but expect heavy elevator traffic during the Thursday-Friday window, so a rolling cart or dolly speeds things up considerably.
