Living in Bloss Hall: what to know before you pack
The room
Every Bloss room includes its own in-room sink and an adjacent semi-private bathroom with a toilet and shower — a step up from the community-bathroom halls, though it's shared only with your direct suite-mates, not the whole floor. Rooms come with beds, desks, and built-in wardrobes; the beds are movable and can be adjusted to roughly 27.5, 18.75, or 8.5 inches of underbed clearance, with a rental loft kit stretching that to 58.5 or 69 inches for a $280 nonrefundable fee. About 89% of Bloss rooms are suite-style doubles and 11% are suite-style singles, all with the standard extra-long twin (36" x 80") mattress. Because residents clean their own suite bathroom rather than relying on daily custodial service, packing a toilet brush and shower cleaner is worth doing before move-in day, not after.
Day to day
Bloss anchors OSU's south-side neighborhood along with Finley, Halsell, and the ILLC, close to Reser Stadium, Gill Coliseum, and the Beth Ray Center for Academic Support. A recently remodeled first-floor lounge with games and a large-screen TV serves as the main gathering spot, and the seventh floor houses both a Second-Year and Above community and a dedicated Transfer Student community. The shared first-floor kitchen — fridge, microwave, cooktop, and oven — is open 24/7, and each floor adds its own kitchenette microwave. Note that Bloss sits next to an active construction site: a new residence hall is being built on the parking lot just south of the building, opening September 2028, with fencing already up and construction beginning in November.
Move-in day
Bloss shares Wednesday, September 16 as its fall 2026 move-in day, alongside Hawley, Buxton, and Callahan halls — the first of Oregon State's three move-in days. Families get an assigned time slot inside that day (available to select in late August) and should follow the printed traffic flow map rather than GPS navigation, since the university reroutes traffic specifically to keep each day's flow efficient. After checking in for a room key, park in Bloss's designated unloading zone just long enough to unload, then relocate the vehicle to long-term parking. Because construction is underway just south of the building, expect the unloading and parking layout near Bloss to look somewhat different than in past years — watch for updated signage on move-in day. Late arrivals check in after 5 p.m. at the Arnold Service Center, or with the on-duty RA after 8 p.m.
