University of Idaho Freshman Dorms 2026
University of Idaho requires all full-time first-year students under 21 to live in university-recognized housing for one academic year, with first-year placement in Wallace Residence Center, Theophilus Tower, or a Living Learning Community. Every residence hall room has a twin XL bed, and air conditioning is arriving floor-by-floor and wing-by-wing as a $162 million housing project finishes in phases through August 2027. What to bring to University of Idahodorms — and what’s already there
Every U of Ifreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.
⚠ First-year students under 21 must live in university-recognized housing (residence hall, fraternity, or sorority) for one full academic year unless they qualify for an exemption (age 21+, two full prior semesters or three quarters of college, immediate family within 40 miles, married, legal dependent, or documented medical/psychological need).
⚠ First-year students in any residence hall, and all students living in Wallace, Theophilus Tower, or McConnell, are required to purchase a meal plan; returning Living Learning Community residents are not.
⚠ A $162 million housing project is renovating Theophilus Tower and the Wallace Complex in phases from August 2025 through August 2027, so air conditioning and updated furniture exist only in floors/wings already completed. For 2026-27 the university's own rate sheet flags Tower floors 6-11 and the Wallace Ballard/Stevenson wings as newly renovated -- confirm the status of your specific assignment with Housing and Residence Life.
