What size bed does the University of Florida use?

UF residence-hall beds are Twin XL — also called Extra-Long Twin — so buy sheets labeled Twin XL or Extra-Long Twin. Standard twin sheets are cut for a 75-inch mattress and will pull off the corners of the longer 80-inch dorm bed. UF names the size but does not publish exact inch measurements on its site, so shop by the Twin XL / Extra-Long Twin label rather than a specific number. Two upper-division buildings, Cypress Hall and the Keys Complex, use Full XL beds instead and need extra-long full sheets, but the traditional first-year halls — Broward, Jennings, Hume, and Springs — are all standard Twin XL. Confirm your specific hall before buying if you're unsure.

Do University of Florida dorms have air conditioning?

Yes. Air conditioning is effectively universal across UF's current freshman residence halls, and UF's own packing list leaves a fan off the essentials because the rooms are cooled. This matters in Gainesville, where heat and humidity run well into the fall semester. UF prohibits installing your own window or portable AC unit in the room, so you can't add cooling on top of the building system — but you won't need to. A small fan is still fine if you like the airflow or use it for white noise. UF's older Murphree Area halls historically lacked central AC but have since been retrofitted, so you're not choosing between AC and no-AC the way you would at some other schools.

Can I bring an over-the-door organizer to a UF dorm?

No — UF's Community Standards specifically prohibit hooks that hang over the door, including over-door decorations, over-door mirrors, and hook-style clothes hangers. That rules out the over-the-door shoe and storage organizers that are popular at other schools. It's one of the most common freshman surprises at UF, because these organizers are sold everywhere as dorm essentials. Does UF provide a fridge and microwave, or do I bring my own?

You bring your own — UF does not put a fridge or microwave in the room. Keep the refrigerator under 3.5 amps and 12 cubic feet and the microwave under 1,500 watts to stay within UF's Community Standards, and note you can have at most two microwaves in a room. Coordinate with your roommate or suitemates before move-in so you don't each haul one up for a shared space. Every floor also has a community kitchen with a microwave, oven, and stove, so you have a place to cook beyond whatever you bring for the room. UF does not run an official fridge-rental program, so plan to buy or bring the appliance yourself.

When is University of Florida move-in for Fall 2026?

UF first-year move-in is August 15–16, 2026, by appointment — you select an arrival window, so reserve early and arrive within it to keep elevator and unloading waits short. Because on-campus housing at UF is by agreement and not guaranteed, the earlier deadlines matter: Honors Program students who sign the Housing Agreement by April 1 are guaranteed an Honors Village space, and the general Housing Agreement deadline is May 1. If capacity fills before then, a waitlist opens, so apply as early as you can after committing. Gainesville is in hurricane season at move-in, and UF recommends packing an inclement-weather kit — a flashlight, batteries, and about three days of non-perishable food and water.
