Common questions about Florida Atlantic University dorms

Are freshmen required to live on campus at FAU?

No. At FAU's main Boca Raton campus, on-campus housing is not required for first-year students — it's offered first-come, first-served once you've paid the deposit and signed a housing contract. That's different from FAU's Wilkes Honors College in Jupiter, which does require two years of on-campus living; that policy doesn't apply to Boca Raton students.

What size beds does FAU use in its residence halls?

Every FAU residence hall room comes with a Twin XL bed (36" x 80"). FAU's own housing pages don't state whether the bed frames can be raised or adjusted for any hall — only the mattress size is published — so confirm the exact frame with Housing before buying bedding or storage accessories that assume a specific bed height.

What can't I bring to my FAU dorm room?

FAU prohibits candles and incense, open flames, halogen lamps, LED strip lighting tape, hot plates, toasters, and grills with exposed heating elements, wireless routers or access points, weapons, fireworks, amplified equipment, and pets other than fish in a 10-gallon-or-smaller tank.
