University of Montana Freshman Dorms 2026

UM requires new students — those with fewer than 30 post-high-school credit hours from another college, or fewer than two semesters already in a residence hall — to live in university halls (Montana Board of Regents policy); AP and dual-enrollment credit doesn't count toward the exemption. UM runs a real, campus-wide bed-height system across most halls (standard ~19.5" clearance, captain ~31" clearance, or bunked), though Knowles Hall is the one hall excluded from that list and treated as fixed-height. Beds are standard Twin campus-wide except Turner and Knowles, which use Twin XL. General fall 2026 move-in is Monday, August 17, with a published early-arrival schedule for specific programs and a $100/night charge for unaffiliated early arrivals.
