Living in Cummings Hall: what to know before you pack

The room

Cummings is a freshman-only hall with double rooms furnished with two twin XL beds, dressers, desks, chairs, and a shared double closet. Furniture can be rearranged by roommate agreement, and corner rooms run slightly larger than standard ones. MTSU doesn't publish a lofting or height-adjustment option for the beds here, so plan around a fixed frame until you can confirm otherwise in person.

Day to day

Each floor has its own study room, kitchen, laundry, and lobby space, plus a help desk staffed 7 a.m.-midnight on weekdays and until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Cummings also houses an on-site tutoring center. Bathrooms are shared, one per floor.

Move-in day

Fall 2026 check-in runs August 19-23 in an individual appointment window assigned by MTSU. Cummings sits next to the Business and Aerospace Building, James E. Walker Library, and the John Bragg Media and Entertainment Building, with Doug McCallie Dining Hall close by.

Hook-and-loop straps you can undo and re-bundle — the rearrangeable alternative to zip ties for chargers and monitor cords

  • Gym bag / duffel (with shoe pocket)

  • Sleep mask + earplugs

The extra seat a dorm never has — folds flat when you don't need it
  • Mini projector (movie nights)
Turns a blank wall into a movie night — a floor favorite
  • Waterproof outdoor blanket
For quad hangs, tailgates, and games on damp grass
  • Essential-oil diffuser
