University of Memphis Freshman Dorms 2026

Memphis has no university-wide freshman live-on mandate — only individual programs (like Emerging Leaders) require it. Rooms come with a built-in EcoMax fridge/microwave combo, and personal fridges or microwaves are banned outright, not just discouraged. Beds may not be lofted or bunked in any hall, school-wide. Move-in staggers by hall from August 17-21, 2026, with check-in at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center for main-campus halls.

What to bring to University of Memphisdorms — and what’s already there

Every Memphisfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

Beds may not be lofted or bunked under any circumstance — a firm school-wide rule.

Personal fridges and microwaves are banned outright; a built-in EcoMax combo unit is provided instead, and bringing your own gets it confiscated.

Cancellation fees escalate steeply: $0 within 7 days of assignment notice, up to $1,500 or half a semester's charge after August 1.

Smoking, vaping, alcohol (including empty/decorative containers), and open flames are fully banned and enforced, not just discouraged.
