MTSU Freshman Dorms 2026

MTSU doesn't require any student to live on campus, and on-campus housing "is limited and is not guaranteed," so applying early matters. Four halls host first-year students — Cummings, Corlew, Sims, and Smith — all double-occupancy with community bathrooms and a meningococcal vaccine required before room assignment. Move-in for Fall 2026 runs August 19-23 in individual check-in windows. Central air isn't turned on until after October 15 in fall or April 15 in spring, and personal AC units are banned outright over electrical-load limits.

What to bring to MTSUdorms — and what’s already there

Every MTSUfreshman hall includes the same base furnishings. Skip anything already in your room, pack what’s missing, and leave the banned items at home.

Tampering with fire alarms, extinguishers, or exit signs is a serious violation under MTSU Policy 541/770 — expect disciplinary action and possible criminal referral.

Proof of meningococcal vaccination (after age 16, within the last 5 years) is required before a room can be assigned.

Personal window AC units are banned for "electrical load restraints"; central air isn't activated before October 15 in fall or April 15 in spring.

Early move-in requires university approval and costs $35 per day.

Common questions about MTSU dorms

Are pets allowed in MTSU dorms?
Only fish, and only in a single aquarium of 10 gallons or less — no other pets are permitted in any MTSU residence hall.
Can I move in early at MTSU?
Yes, with approval for a university-sanctioned event or involvement, at $35 per day.
What does a "private room" mean at MTSU?
It's a standard double-occupancy room with both sets of furniture, but only one student assigned and paying the single rate.
Can I use tape to hang posters in an MTSU dorm?
Use Command strips or blue painter's tape instead — scotch tape, double-sided tape, and duct tape can pull off paint and drywall and trigger damage charges.
