Living in Palo Verde East: what to know before you pack
The room
Palo Verde East keeps it simple: shared double rooms with shared bathrooms, or private rooms with private bathrooms, all in suite-style arrangements. Rooms come with the ASU standard set — adjustable-height Twin XL beds (36"×80"), desk and chair, dresser and closet, waste and recycling baskets — and the adjustable frames mean you can raise the bed for under-bed bins. There's no MicroFridge included here, so plan to rent one through ASU's vendor or bring a UL-listed mini-fridge (one per room, coordinated with your roommate, is plenty). Bedding note: the mattress is 36 inches wide — narrower than the 38-inch Twin XL standard — so fitted sheets sit slightly loose.
Day to day
PV East's pitch is location plus convenience. It sits on the north edge of campus across from Sun Devil Stadium, two blocks from downtown Tempe and Mill Avenue — and the PV East Hub on the ground level is genuinely useful daily infrastructure: a Starbucks, the mail and package center, the Sun Spot quiet tutoring and study space, and a P.O.D. convenience market. Dining halls are next door at Manzanita (Manzy Square) or Tooker House, both covered by the required meal plan. Add tutoring centers, academic advising, community kitchens, free laundry, and a 24-hour front desk, and most of freshman logistics happens within a block of your bed.
Move-in day
Move-in for Tempe is August 15–16, 2026 — assigned date and window on My ASU, instructions by email from early July. The desert-August rules apply: earliest window, fastest unload, water for everyone, and do the real unpacking in the AC. Your packages will route through the PV East Hub's mail center, so shipping bulky items (bins, a rug, the fan) ahead via Amazon beats hauling them across the country — order early enough to beat the move-in surge. Set your adjustable bed height on day one, sort the fridge rental with your roommate beforehand, and skip laundry quarters — machines are free.
Palo Verde East FAQ
- Does Palo Verde East include a fridge or microwave?
- No — PV East rooms don't come with the MicroFridge that Tooker House and Manzanita include. Most residents rent the combined microwave-fridge unit through ASU's rental vendor or bring their own UL-listed mini-fridge. Decide with your roommate before move-in so you don't end up with two fridges in a double. ASU's appliance rules apply to whatever you bring: UL-listed only, no hot plates or open heating elements, and only surge-protected power strips — plain extension cords are limited to temporary, 16-gauge grounded use.
- Where do Palo Verde East residents eat?
- Next door. PV East doesn't have its own dining hall, but the required meal plan covers the all-you-care-to-eat facilities at neighboring Manzanita Hall (Manzy Square) and Tooker House, both a short walk away. Closer still, the PV East Hub downstairs has a Starbucks and a P.O.D. convenience market for coffee, snacks, and essentials, and the community kitchens in the building handle anything you want to cook yourself. Privates cost meaningfully more and are limited, but they're one of the few chances in ASU freshman housing to have both your own room and your own bathroom. If you go the shared route, the suite-style bath is shared within your suite rather than the whole floor; pack shower shoes and a carryable caddy either way, and coordinate shared gear with your roommate before you both buy everything twice.
