Saint Louis University Dorm Packing List 2026
Everything verified: what SLU puts in every room, what you need to bring, and what gets confiscated — pulled from housing agreements and updated for Fall 2026.
Read before you pack
- $4,500 non-compliance fee applies if a residency-required student fails to complete a housing contract or an approved exemption before the contract period begins; 2026 exemption window is Feb. 2 - June 1 for first-years, contract priority deadline May 1, 2026.
- Personal air conditioners (window or portable) are explicitly on SLU's prohibited items list campus-wide — you cannot bring your own unit even to supplement hall-provided AC.
- SLU's beds are fixed-height frames and are never described as loft or height-adjustable anywhere on slu.edu — a loft is only available via a paid third-party rental (Bedloft.com).
- Unauthorized pets carry a $500 cleaning fee plus an additional fine; only fish or hermit crabs in a container of 10 gallons or less are allowed.
- SLU's general Housing Calendar page still shows a 'Stay tuned for key dates for the 2026-2027 academic year!' placeholder — trust the separate Move-In FAQ page, which explicitly and currently states Aug. 14, 2026 for new-student move-in.

Air conditioning at SLU
All 5 verified SLUhalls have central AC. You don’t need to pack a fan for cooling, though many students bring a small one for air circulation and white noise.
